Eugene Police Department arrests suspect in downtown stabbing
Eugene, OR – The Eugene Police Department reported that a man has been arrested in connection with a December 2 stabbing at Oak Alley and E. 10th Avenue following an investigation by the Violent Crimes Unit.
The suspect, 38-year-old Joshua Margarito Saldivar, was taken into custody on December 5 in the 1300 block of W. 17th Avenue after fleeing from EPD patrol officers.
He was transported to Lane County Jail on charges including Assault in the First Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
The victim, a man in his 40s, remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. Schools in the area were placed on lockout during the incident.
According to EPD, the stabbing occurred at 10:02 p.m. on December 2 when callers reported an assault at Oak Alley and E. 10th Avenue.
Officers arrived and provided emergency aid to the victim before he was transported by Eugene Springfield Fire to a local hospital. The Violent Crimes Unit and Forensic Evidence Unit responded to investigate and process the scene.
