ESF crews responded to fire along the tracks off Seneca Road, just south of Valley Milling and Lumber
Eugene, OR – According to the statement, firefighters were alerted to the blaze at 8:53 PM and quickly mobilized to contain the situation.
Battalion 2 arrived on the scene and scouted the area to determine the safest and most effective way to access and attack the fire. Due to access challenges, a brush engine from the Bailey Hill station maneuvered down the train tracks to reach the flames. Simultaneously, an engine from the Bethel area gained access to the lumber yard to protect lumber stacks from embers and potential fire spread.
The coordinated efforts of the firefighters successfully brought the fire under control with limited property damage and no reported injuries. Central Lane Communications played a crucial role in the operation by coordinating with the railroad to halt rail traffic in the vicinity, ensuring the safety of the fire crews.
The quick response and effective strategy employed by Eugene Springfield Fire prevented what could have been a more devastating incident, highlighting their commitment to protecting the community and its resources.
