Boyfriend, who already had a wife and was living a doubIe life, killed his girlfriend ‘because he had to’ after pretending that he wants a new life together; sentenced

Philadelphia, PA – A 44-year-old man, identified as Johny, has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his 33-year-old girlfriend, Jamie, five years ago. The defendant, who was already married and leading a double life, traveled with the woman from Pennsylvania to Nevada under the guise of house-hunting and potentially getting married. Unbeknownst to the victim, the defendant had sinister plans.
The investigation began in October 2019 when travelers in the Nevada desert discovered Jamie’s decomposing body. Her body was found tied to a street sign with zip ties, and her mouth and nose were duct-taped, according to court records. Jamie was identified nearly a month later through previous medical procedures, a tattoo, and dental records. The Sheriff’s Office connected the case to the 44-year-old man, who had been arrested as a suspect in Jamie’s disappearance.
Neighbors reported seeing the man at the victim’s home, where police found ID cards with his name and photo, her cellphone, zip ties, and duct tape. During the investigation, authorities learned that the defendant had lured the victim to Nevada under the pretense of starting a new life together. However, his true intention was to murder her. A few days after arriving in Nevada, the defendant took the victim to the desert, pretending they were going for a photo shoot. He then tied her, without any clothes, to a street sign and duct-taped her mouth and nose, watching as she suffocated to death.
Jamie’s family and friends had expressed concerns about her relationship with Johny, noting his cruelty and financial exploitation. Despite their warnings, Jamie continued the relationship. Prosecutors revealed that Johny was already married to another woman and living a double life. His wife, Mauren, told investigators that her husband had confessed to the murder while calling her from the police station. She claimed that her husband told her this: “I killed her because I had to.”
