Eugene completes permanent infrastructure upgrades at Hilyard Street shelter
Eugene, OR – Earlier this year, the City of Eugene, in partnership with the Eugene Water & Electric Board and Nightingale Hosted Shelters, completed permanent water, electric, and sewer upgrades at a shelter site on City-owned property at Hilyard Street and 34th Avenue.
Officials said the improvements significantly enhance safety, sanitation, and year-round livability for residents experiencing homelessness. The site provides temporary shelter and fosters a supportive community for individuals in need.
With funding from a one-time State Shelter and Housing Grant, additional grants, and donations from Nightingale supporters, the project delivered electricity to individual sleeping huts, a fully equipped kitchen, two shower houses constructed by SquareOne Villages, a renovated warming and cooling shelter, and permanent water and sewer connections, replacing temporary portable services.
The site is now operated by Community Supported Shelters and continues to provide essential sheltering services in the Eugene community.
