Firefighters contain South Hills house fire in Eugene, prevent spread to nearby trees and homes
Eugene, OR – A house fire broke out Saturday morning in Eugene’s South Hills, prompting a swift response from Eugene Springfield Fire crews that ultimately prevented more extensive damage.
Crews were dispatched just after 9 a.m. on July 12 to reports of a fire near 43rd Avenue and Fox Hollow Road. Engine 15, responding from the station at 33rd and Donald, arrived on scene within five minutes to find a home in the 4100 block of Alder Street with heavy fire showing on the back exterior.
Firefighters from Engine 15 quickly began attacking the flames outside the home while additional crews entered to search for any occupants and extinguish fire inside. The blaze had spread to the attic and second-floor living room.
Thanks to a fast response and aggressive tactics, firefighters were able to contain the fire to a single room, the exterior deck, and the attic. Their efforts also prevented the flames from spreading to the neighborhood’s dense tree canopy. The rest of the home sustained moderate smoke damage.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
