Kentucky – A Kentucky man, 30-year-old J. Tompson, was convicted last week of murder and possession of a handgun by a convicted feIon in the death of his girIfriend, 23-year-old Kierea. The jury recommended a thirty five year sentence for the murder charge and five years for the firearm possession, to be served concurrently. The defendant will be eligible for parole after serving at least twenty years. His formal sentencing is scheduled for July 2.
The incident occurred in Sept. 2022, at the victim’s residence in Kentucky. The defendant reportedly shot her in the back of the head, leaving her child, 2, alone in the apartment. The child’s presence went unnoticed until the victim’s body was discovered four days later.
Prior to the shooting, the defendant had sent threatening messages to his girIfriend, stating he would ‘kill her and get away with it.’ After the incident, he messaged two other individuals, admitting to the shooting and claiming he still possessed the firearm.
Upon his arrest, the defendant told police that an argument over infideIity led to a struggle over the gun, which resulted in the fatal shooting.
Commonwealth’s Attorney Whetters commented on the case, stating, “The jury found this defendant responsible for taking the life of a young mother and creating a tragic set of circumstances for her family. Gun violence is a scourge on our community in all its forms, and we will not stand for it.”
The victim was remembered as a dedicated mother who had recently secured her “dream job” at a local hospital and was pursuing higher education. Her obituary highlighted her commitment to her family and her aspirations for a better future.
This case underscores the devastating impact of domestic violence and the importance of community awareness and intervention.
