Oregon’s State SAR Coordinator highlights vital search and rescue partnerships at LOC Spring Conference
Oregon – As part of the League of Oregon Cities 2025 Spring Conference, Oregon’s State Search and Rescue (SAR) Coordinator, Scott Lucas, delivered a compelling presentation during a special tour hosted by the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station North Bend. The event, which took place on May 1–2, attracted more than 300 city officials, sponsors, and speakers to North Bend, marking the LOC’s 100th anniversary.
Lucas, alongside approximately 45 city councilors and mayors from across Oregon, toured the Air Station, where he provided a detailed overview of the State SAR Program. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between state agencies and the U.S. Coast Guard in coordinating search and rescue efforts, especially in Oregon’s challenging and remote landscapes.
“It was a privilege to speak about how our state and federal teams work hand-in-hand to save lives,” Lucas said. “The Coast Guard is a vital partner in Oregon’s search and rescue system, and it was a pleasure to share that story with so many engaged local leaders.”
During the tour, Lucas had the chance to connect with local officials from cities such as Detroit, Hermiston, Fossil, Molalla, Rogue River, and Paisley. The discussions focused on strengthening local SAR capabilities, enhancing coordination, and building partnerships that improve emergency preparedness across different jurisdictions.
The tour also provided attendees with a behind-the-scenes look at U.S. Coast Guard operations, highlighting the critical role these partnerships play in ensuring effective emergency responses throughout Oregon.
