Oregon State Treasury to return $11 million in unclaimed funds through ‘Checks Without Claims’ initiative
Oregon – Oregon State Treasurer Elizabeth Steiner announced that approximately $11 million in unclaimed property will be returned to individuals this month as part of the Treasury’s 2025 *Checks Without Claims* initiative.
The program aims to reunite thousands of Oregonians with their forgotten funds without requiring them to take any action. Verified owners of unclaimed property reported in 2023 will receive payments via check, accompanied by a confirmation letter from the Treasurer.
Last year, the initiative reconnected more than 18,000 individuals across 48 states with nearly $10 million in unclaimed funds. With over $1 billion in unclaimed property still held by the state, Treasury continues its efforts to return money to rightful owners.
Unclaimed property includes uncashed checks, forgotten bank accounts, tax refunds, payroll checks, investment accounts, and other financial assets.
Typically, individuals must file a claim and complete a verification process to retrieve their funds. However, *Checks Without Claims* proactively identifies and verifies some owners, issuing direct payments ranging from $50 to $10,000.
Residents can check for unclaimed funds at [unclaimed.oregon.gov](https://unclaimed.oregon.gov). Questions can be directed to Oregon’s Unclaimed Property Program via email at [email protected] or by phone at 503-378-4000.
