Eugene Springfield Fire responds to apartment fire, two dogs lost
Eugene, OR – Eugene Springfield Fire crews responded to an apartment fire on the 1200 block of Railroad Blvd in Eugene on Thursday evening, December 26. The call came in at 5:12 PM, with initial reports indicating that a child was trapped on the second floor.
Firefighters from the Whiteaker station arrived in just over four minutes to find heavy flames emanating from the back of a two-story apartment located above a commercial space. Crews quickly initiated a search for victims and began attacking the fire.
As operations continued, information from occupants confirmed that all individuals had safely exited the building. However, two dogs were reported missing. Firefighters faced extreme heat and zero visibility on the second floor as they worked to control the blaze. Additional resources, including a hose line deployed through a ladder and a window, were brought in to support the effort, while a truck company performed vertical ventilation to release hot gases and smoke.
The fire was successfully contained to the second floor. While there were no injuries reported among residents or firefighters, the two missing dogs tragically perished in the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
