Fire crews successfully stopped grass fire before it reached neighboring businesses, the fire is now under investigation
Eugene, OR – According to the officials, fire crews responded to a fast-moving, wind-driven grass fire near the railroad tracks off Highway 99 and Fairfield in West Eugene on Monday evening.
At 6:22 PM on July 8th, fire crews, consisting of a mixture of fire engines and brush engines, were dispatched to the scene.
They successfully stopped the fire before it reached neighboring businesses.
The fire is now under control and under investigation.
Monday marked the first “red flag warning” of the 2024 fire season. Red Flag Warnings alert fire crews to conditions that may lead to especially dangerous wildfire growth. For a Red Flag Warning to be issued, there must be low fuel moisture, low relative humidity, and wind.
In response to these conditions, Eugene Springfield Fire staffs an additional crew during Red Flag Warnings.
