The Oak Street and Pearl Street Pavement Rehabilitation Project has commenced repaving work, city officials said

Eugene, OR – According to the city officials, Pearl Street is scheduled for repaving this week while Oak Street will be repaved next week, from June 28 to July 3.
To minimize disruptions to downtown businesses and visitors, the repaving activities for both streets will take place at night, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Road users will not encounter full road closures on Oak or Pearl Street; however, single-lane closures should be anticipated. Southbound bicyclists are advised to use High Street or ride in the travel lane on Pearl Street.
The project, which includes repaving and concrete work such as sidewalk ramps, is expected to be completed by the end of July.
Upon completion, the area will feature a smoother road surface, more accessible sidewalk curb ramps, a bike lane on the west side of Pearl Street, and shorter pedestrian crossings at various intersections along Oak and Pearl Streets.
The installation of shorter pedestrian crossings, also known as bump-outs, is being implemented in areas with higher numbers of pedestrians, cyclists, and individuals using mobility aids.
These bump-outs extend the sidewalk ramp into the parking lane, reducing the time pedestrians spend crossing the street. Additionally, bump-outs tighten the turning radius, causing drivers to slow down before turning, thereby enhancing safety for all road users.
