Man wounded in officer involved shooting following complaint over loud party
A man was wounded in an officer-involved shooting last night in White City after neighbors complained of a party.
Authorities are providing little information about the incident that took place just before 8 pm. According to a press release from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of “a disorderly loud party” in the 2500 block of Agate Meadows in White City at around 7:44 pm.
According to the department, neighbors had reported a group of more than 25 subjects were inside the house and there were several speeding vehicles leaving the scene as well as other vehicles parked illegally in the neighborhood.
“They were causing places to be blocked off, people couldn’t get out of their driveway. It did need to have a law enforcement response,” said Jackson County Sheriff’s Office PIO Mike Moran.
Just before 8 pm, a deputy on scene reported being involved in a shooting. No officers were harmed. One individual received a gunshot wound that is non-life-threatening. The male subject is being treated at a local medical facility. There has been no indication given so far as to whether the man was unarmed.
Moran said the call was not related to a violation of the new COVID restrictions limiting in-person gatherings. “I think it was more that it was a situation that was causing a concern due to disorderly behavior. It may have been a concern on the part of the folks who were observing it, but that was a minor portion of what the concerns were,” Moran said.
The Jackson County Major Assault Death Investigation Unit (MADIU) was called out and is coordinating the investigation. “At a juncture where the team feels like they can release more information, I’ll be able to provide more details about identities of individuals involved,” Moran said.
