Eugene police report burglary ring targeting homes after break-in in Churchill neighborhood, urge residents to secure valuables and improve security measures
Eugene, OR – The Eugene Police Department reported a new burglary ring investigation following a break-in in the Churchill neighborhood on April 16.
According to police, the call came in at approximately 12:33 p.m. from residents who reported a forced entry at a home in the area. Investigators believe the incident may be linked to organized burglary crews that have targeted residences based on perceived access to cash, jewelry, and other high-value items.
Police said similar groups in past cases have allegedly focused on individuals they believed were likely to store valuables at home, including professionals and business owners. Investigators noted that in some instances, suspects appeared to conduct surveillance of potential victims, disable or block security cameras, and then enter homes while residents were away at work.
The department stated that stolen items have included safes and other easily transportable valuables.
Eugene police issued a public advisory to residents, urging precautionary steps to reduce risk. Officials recommended avoiding storing large amounts of cash or high-value items at home, suggesting use of financial institutions and safety deposit boxes instead.
Authorities also encouraged residents to use hardwired surveillance systems and home security systems, noting these may be more difficult for offenders to disable. Police further advised homeowners to consider insurance coverage for expensive belongings.
The investigation remains ongoing as officers work to determine the extent of the burglary activity and whether additional incidents are connected.
