Pre’s Trail section to close as culvert replacement project begins near Science Center
Eugene, OR – A portion of Pre’s Trail near the Science Center in Eugene was scheduled to close as crews prepared to replace a culvert beneath the trail.
The City of Eugene’s Parks and Open Space division said visitors should expect construction activity in the area from Aug. 19 through Aug. 21.
The project will also affect water levels in the nearby canoe canal.
Staff began lowering the canal’s water level at 2 p.m. on Aug. 17 as part of preparations for the culvert replacement. Beginning Aug. 18, the water level was expected to be significantly lower than normal and remain at least one foot below its usual level through Aug. 20.
The city said a portion of Pre’s Trail would be closed from Aug. 19 through Aug. 21 to allow crews to safely complete the work.
Signs will be placed along the trail to direct users north toward the Science Center, where they will be able to reconnect with Pre’s Trail.
The culvert replacement is intended to improve infrastructure beneath the trail, with the city warning visitors to expect crews and work activity in the area during the project.
Park visitors were asked to follow posted park rules and signage, remain clear of work zones and pay close attention to their surroundings while construction is underway.
