Eugene Police Department investigated fatal crash on Beltline on-ramp involving two vehicles
Eugene, OR – The Eugene Police Department responded to a fatal two-vehicle crash on the eastbound Beltline connector to Interstate 5, where one driver died and the other was not seriously injured.
According to the department, the crash occurred when a Ford F250, driven by 41-year-old Kenneth Lee Gajda of Junction City, collided with the left side of a Lexus ES driven by a 65-year-old Junction City resident while entering the on-ramp to I-5 from eastbound Beltline.
After the initial collision, the Ford F250 continued forward, struck and sheared a power pole, and crashed through the right-side metal guard rail of the on-ramp. The driver of the Ford F250 was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Authorities confirmed the driver of the Lexus did not require medical transport from the scene.
The Eugene Police Major Collision Investigation Team responded to the crash site, and officials noted that the incident resulted in extended road closures due to the downed power pole. The case remains under investigation.
