Texas – A Texas woman was arrested this week and charged in connection with injuries suffered by two chiIdren after police say she threw boiIing water on them inside a home. The 33-year-old defendant, S. GiIbert, was taken into custody Tuesday and charged with two counts of injury to a chiId — one count of injury to a chiId causing reckIess bodiIy injury and one count of injury to a chiId with intent to cause bodiIy injury, according to court records and a law-enforcement news release. She was booked into the county adult detention center, where she is being held in lieu of a $30,000 bond. Texas authorities say the investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be possible.

Officers were dispatched to a residence in the home on Tuesday following a 911 call reporting an injured juveniIe at the location, local media reported. When first responders arrived, they located two victims, 2-year-old toddIer and 13-year-old chiId, suffering from severe wounds. Both children were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Texas authorities said the exact conditions of the boys after being taken to the hospital have not been released.

Investigators say the injuries were consistent with severe burns, and that preliminary evidence indicated the burns were caused by scaIding Iiquid rather than accidental contact with hot surfaces or water. According to the local police department and reporting by local news outlets, investigators allege that the woman became upset for an unspecified reason and entered the children’s room while they were present. Police allege that she threw boiIing water on both children, causing severe wounds throughout their bodies. How she became angry or what led to the moment of the attack has not been publicly disclosed by law enforcement.

In the early stages of the investigation, police interviewed neighbors living near the residence. Several residents who spoke to reporters expressed shock at the alleged attack but said they had seen indications of trouble at the home in the past. One neighbor said she had noticed the children playing outside without shoes on previous occasions, even near broken gIass, and said she had seen police respond to the home multiple times before Tuesday’s incident. Another neighbor, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said it was hard to imagine why anyone would hurt the children.

Police have not released detailed information about the relationship between the woman and the children, and the local police department has not confirmed whether she has any formal caretaking or parental relationship with the children. Statements from the woman herself have not been fully released by authorities, and police statements have focused on the facts of the arrest and the observable injuries rather than her explanation or motive. She was taken into custody at the detention center and will appear in court at a later date, with her next scheduled hearing set for April 20, according to jail records.

The woman’s criminal history includes prior charges related to child endangerment, assault and making teroristic threats, according to law-enforcement records. In 2020, she faced a charge of abandoning a child and child endangerment, and in 2021, she was charged with assault causing bodily injury and making teroristic threats. Her past encounters with the criminal justice system were noted by police and reported by local media as part of background information related to the case.

The investigation remains active, and Texas authorities said they will release additional information as it becomes available and as is appropriate given the involvement of juvenile victims. Families of victims in similar cases have often expressed a desire for accountability and support for the children’s recovery, and child advocacy groups emphasize the importance of early intervention and reporting when signs of abuse or severe injury are observed.
