Woman who told poIice that she tried to kiII a 1-year-old by sitting on the baby while without cIothes under her waist, because she hoped that kiIIing the chiId would prompt an aduIt present in the home to kiII her, is charged
Indiana – An Indiana woman was arrested and charged in connection with an alleged attempt to kiII a 1-year-old chiId after police say she sat on the victim’s face and later told Indiana authorities she intended to “sac rifice” the chiId. Court records show the defendant, 37-year-old K. Prector, was taken into custody earlier this week and charged with one count of attempted murder and one count of moIesting a chiId under the age of 14, both felonies under Indiana law.
Indiana authorities were called to the home at about 10:30 p.m. on a 911 report of a possible child moIesting incident. When first responders arrived, they found the defendant, an adult witness, and the 1-year-old inside the residence. According to the adult witness, she had walked in on the defendant sitting on the child’s face while she was without any cIothes under her waist, and the child was screaming. Medics evaluated the child at the scene and reported the child was physically unharmed.
The adult witness told police that she and the defendant had recently finished watching what she described as a “GodIy” movie, after which the defendant began acting strangely and asking unusual questions about the film. A short time later, the witness said she checked on the 1-year-old and discovered the defendant’s alleged actions. In response, the witness said she beat the defendant before contacting Indiana authorities.
Investigators documented statements from the witness that the defendant appeared to behave erratically and that, at one point, she may have placed her hand over the witness’s mouth in what the witness described as an attempt to “sacrfice” her as well. Based on preliminary information gathered during the investigation and conversations with the witness, police say the defendant may be schizophrenic, though no formal medical determination was reported publicly at the time of the arrest.
During a post-Miranda interview with police, prosecutors allege that the 37-year-old woman confirmed she had tried to kiII the chiId. She reportedly told investigators that she hoped that kiIIing the child would prompt the adult witness to kiII her. When pressed for further explanation, authorities say the defendant was unable to provide a coherent response. Police also allege that the defendant made additional statements about wanting to “sacrlfice” the young child.
She was transported to the county jail, where she was being held without bond as of Wednesday morning. The County prosecutor’s office will review the case and determine the formal charges to pursue.
Investigators have not publicly disclosed additional details about the defendant’s background or mental health history beyond what was provided by the witness and what was observed at the scene. Indiana authorities also have not provided further comment on whether prosecutors intend to pursue a mental health evaluation or whether she has entered a plea.
