City begins removal of flock safety cameras following contract termination
Eugene, OR – The City has begun removing Flock Safety cameras after the termination of its contract with the company earlier this month, according to the Eugene Police Department.
City officials said the contract with Flock Safety ended on December 5, and the City requested that the company promptly remove the cameras.
However, after learning that Flock Safety did not plan to begin removal until January 26, City staff initiated the process themselves.
City crews began disconnecting and securing the cameras on December 18. As of the latest update, 55 of the 57 cameras have been successfully removed.
Officials said plans are in place to remove the remaining two cameras next week.
The City noted that weather conditions, scheduled events, and the holiday season have been considered while carrying out the work.
The solar panels associated with the camera system will remain in place until Flock Safety arrives to complete their removal.
