Eugene man charged in 30th Avenue and Spring Boulevard shooting
Eugene, OR – A Eugene man has been charged in connection with a September 3, 2025, shooting near 30th Avenue and Spring Boulevard that left a 35-year-old man injured.
According to the Eugene Police Department, 21-year-old Zachery John Padgett faces charges of assault in the first degree, robbery in the first degree, menacing, unlawful use of a firearm, and felon in possession of a firearm.
Investigators said Padgett robbed the victim of a backpack and shot him during the robbery in a wooded area near the intersection. The victim was able to reach the roadway to get help, prompting a heavy police response and road closures in the area.
On September 18, police conducting follow-up in the case located Padgett in a drainage area near East 30th Avenue and Spring Boulevard. Officers said he was possibly armed and initially eluded them in the heavily wooded terrain. He was later safely detained at 27th and Central at 2:44 p.m., with help from a local resident.
At that time, Padgett was booked into the Lane County Jail on additional charges, including assault in the second degree and hit and run for an August 2024 case in which a stolen Toyota Prius struck a pedestrian on East 32nd Avenue. The pedestrian survived with non-life-threatening injuries.
Padgett also faces charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, attempt to elude, and criminal mischief in a separate September 2025 case.
Eugene Police credited community assistance in helping with Padgett’s arrest.
