22-year-old man arrested, charged with unlawful use of a weapon, assault following incident at Valley River Center

Eugene, OR – Eugene police responded to a menacing with a firearm incident at Valley River Center.

The suspect, 22-year-old Reeson Darrell Cofey, allegedly slapped a mother and spit on her baby while holding a firearm in his waistband.

Eugene Police Patrol officers, along with detectives, saturated the area and worked with Springfield Police Department to track Cofey’s whereabouts.

After locating a possible residence in Springfield, SPD observed Cofey enter the home.

Eugene Police SWAT, the Crisis Negotiation Team, K9, and Drone Team were activated for assistance.

With the help of a Violent Crimes detective, a search warrant was obtained, and Cofey surrendered peacefully when officers conducted their operation.

He was arrested and transported to Lane County Jail on charges including unlawful use of a weapon, menacing, harassment, and assault in the fourth degree.
