ESF crews respond to two commercial fires in Eugene, no injuries reported

Eugene, OR – Eugene Springfield Fire crews tackled two separate commercial fires in Eugene late Saturday night, ensuring minimal damage and no injuries.
The first fire was reported at 11:07 p.m. on January 4 at Target, located at 4575 W. 11th Avenue. Crews from ESF Bailey Hill Engine 10 arrived to find a large trash compactor attached to the store engulfed in flames, producing significant smoke and threatening the building. A commercial fire alarm response was activated, bringing in additional engines, specialty truck companies, an ambulance, and two chief officers. Firefighters used a winch from a truck company to pull the compactor away from the store, while other crews checked the interior for fire or smoke extension. The fire was contained to the compactor, and no injuries were reported.
At 11:56 p.m., crews were dispatched to a second fire at the Kendall Auto Group at 846 Goodpasture Island Road. Neighbors reported flames and smoke near the rear of the car dealership. Station 9 responded, but gated access initially delayed the fire attack. Upon entry, firefighters found a vehicle fully engulfed in flames near the building, with a second vehicle beginning to catch fire. A full commercial response was requested due to the proximity of the fire to the structure. Crews managed to extinguish the fire, limiting damage to the two vehicles and causing only minor cosmetic damage to the building.
Both incidents are under investigation by the Eugene Springfield Fire Marshal’s Office.
