Eugene Springfield Fire responds to structure fire at 12th and Grant Street, no injuries reported
Eugene, OR – Eugene Springfield Fire crews responded early Wednesday morning to a fire at an abandoned two-story home in West Eugene. The call came in at 5:08 a.m. on November 27, reporting smoke coming from the boarded-up structure at 12th and Grant Street. Firefighters arrived to find heavy flames consuming the property, which was filled with trash and in significant disrepair.
Crews worked diligently to gain access to the building and extinguish the fire. Despite challenging conditions, including the home’s unsafe structure, no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
This incident marks the latest in a series of fires at the property. Earlier this month, on November 5, firefighters responded to a warming fire on the first floor of another abandoned home on the same site. Additionally, a fire at a different abandoned home in Eugene on October 29 highlighted the hazards crews face when responding to such incidents, including human waste and discarded needles on the properties.
The department continues to stress the dangers these unsafe structures pose to firefighters and the community. Further updates on the investigation are expected as more information becomes available.
