The City of Eugene will hold a public hearing on Sept. 16 to discuss a proposed 5% increase in stormwater fees set to take effect Nov. 1, 2024

Eugene, OR – The City of Eugene announced it will host a public hearing on September 16, 2024, to gather community feedback and provide information about a proposed increase in stormwater fees. The proposed change, set to take effect on November 1, 2024, aims to address the rising costs of managing the stormwater infrastructure system.

Stormwater, the runoff from hard surfaces in urban areas, is channeled back into rivers. To comply with stringent water quality regulations established by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality, Eugene’s stormwater management plan assesses properties to determine their share of stormwater management costs.

The proposal outlines a 5% fee increase, as detailed in City Manager Sarah Medary’s Administrative Order. This proposed increase follows another fee adjustment that took effect on July 1, 2024, resulting from an expansion in stormwater fee eligibility approved by the City Council last month.

The public is invited to attend the virtual hearing at noon on September 16 to learn more about the proposed rate changes and to ask questions about the new fees.
