Officials provide details about Eugene Springfield Fire’s Development Program

Published

on

Eugene, OR – The transition from firefighter to engineer, captain, or battalion chief at Eugene Springfield Fire is a structured and rigorous process, not an arbitrary promotion.

To establish lists of qualified candidates for future vacancies at all levels of the organization, the department conducts promotional testing through its Development Program.

Last year, due to high demand, the department ran three concurrent Development Programs: Engineer (Apparatus Driver), Officer (Fire Captain), and Chief Officer (Battalion Chief). These programs provide comprehensive training to prepare members for advanced roles within the department.

After graduating from these programs, members participate in a promotional process that includes various interviews and performance-based tasks.

This process requires extensive studying, support from fellow crew members and the entire department, and a significant amount of determination.

Through this structured pathway, Eugene Springfield Fire ensures that career advancements are earned through dedication and demonstrated capability.
