The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has earmarked $1.526 million in Brownfield Cleanup Grant funds for the City of Eugene to address contamination issues at Trainsong Park
Eugene, OR – According to the city officials, the presence of dioxin-contaminated soil was unexpectedly discovered over two years ago, prompting this remediation effort.
The grant will be disbursed following the completion of the final application step.
The City submitted its funding request last autumn and recently received confirmation of the award.
Statewide, the EPA has allocated a total of $9,806,874 in grants to accelerate the assessment and cleanup of Brownfield sites across Oregon.
Eugene’s allocation will primarily finance soil replacement initiatives within the park and support the development of a public involvement plan alongside community engagement endeavors.
