The Medford Police Department warns against employer phone call scams

Medford, OR – Medford Police Department officials released a statement, saying that they’ve noticed a rise in phone call scams, mostly targeted at employees of restaurants and shopping centers, resulting in the loss of thousands of dollars.
In recent cases, the scammer will repotedly call an employee and pretend to be someone from the employer’s corporate office or a branch manager.
The caller then advises the employee to purchase gift cards or bitcoin using money from their employer.
Anyone requesting you to take money from your employer and purchase gift cards or bitcoin is more than likely a scam.
The Medford Police Department advises employees to speak with their direct or corporate manager regarding the requests of these purchases before taking any action.
The Medford Police Department also encourages employers to inform their employees about how these scams happen.
If you believe you have been a victim of this scam, please contact the non-emergency line at 541-770-4783.
