Skinner Butte summit road and parking lot to remain closed until October due to wildfire concerns
Eugene, OR – The City of Eugene has announced the temporary closure of the Skinner Butte parking lot and summit road as part of an effort to reduce wildfire risks during the summer months.
According to Parks & Open Space and Eugene Springfield Fire, the closure will remain in effect until sometime in October.
Officials said the area has experienced a history of illegal fireworks activity and brush fires, particularly during the summer season.
The temporary vehicle closure is intended to reduce the likelihood of fire-related incidents and help protect public lands and nearby communities.
While the summit road and parking lot will be closed to vehicles, the summit of Skinner Butte will remain accessible to pedestrians and cyclists through multiple trails and the paved road leading to the top.
Officials noted that e-motorcycles will not be permitted on the routes that remain open during the closure period.
The seasonal restriction is part of ongoing efforts to reduce fire hazards during the region’s drier months, when vegetation is more susceptible to ignition and rapid fire spread.
City officials encouraged residents and visitors to continue enjoying the area responsibly while following all fire safety regulations and access restrictions throughout the closure.
