Mother refused to call 911, claiming her child was overreacting, even after the victim’s younger sibling tried sprinkling water in her eyes and cared for her all day until she died from an untreated medicaI condition; charged

New York City, N.Y. – According to the court documents, during the preliminary hearing, which started earlier this week, several witnesses revealed stunning details about the parent’s negIect that led to her child’s untimely death. Prosecutors said the 36-year-old parent from New York, AshIey, was arrested on Monday and charged with second-degree homicide in connection with her child’s death. The girl, 12-year-old Myaa, reportedly died as a result of untreated medicaI condition. The medical examiner told investigators that the child’s death was caused by medicaI negIect and her death was rules as a homicide.
The preliminary hearing began earlier this week, in which several witnesses revealed stunning details about the child’s condition before she died. One of the witnesses, CoIIeen, told prosecutors that she worked as a bus driver for the school district and knew the child for several years. The woman reportedly testified that the ‘child smeIIed bad and her clothes were in poor condition’. The woman also said that she told the school nurse about the child’s condition, mentioning that the child was always thirsty.
Just weeks before the child died, the victim’s siblings told the woman that their sister was very sick and can’t even get out of bed. The mother’s neighbor, JiII, also took the witness stand and reportedly said that the victim’s sibling reportedly told her that ‘she took care of his dying sister all day and even tried sprinkling water in his sister’s eyes. The child also told the neighbor that he asked his mother to call 911 but she refused, saying that his sister was being dramatic.
The medical examiner also testified during the preliminary hearing, stating that the victim ‘should have been showing symptoms of the condition (dlabetes) for weeks or months. The parent reportedly scheduled an appointment, but didn’t took the child to the doctor. Shortly after the child died, CPS removed the woman’s other children from the home, but they were set to be released back into her custody.
