Mother and father were advised their child was suffering from a lifelong dlsease, but failed to provide adequate treatment of the girl, resulting in her death; charged

Indianapolis, IN – According to the police officials, the 38-year-old mother, later identified as AshIey, and the 38-year-old dad, later identified as Brant, were taken into custody and later charged with neglect of a dependent causing death after they reportedly knew about their daughter’s disease, but failed to provide adequate treatment for the 12-year-old child, AIice. Both parents were officially charged on Wednesday, court records say.
The investigation process began last month after the child was found unresponsive in her bedroom. During the investigation process, authorities reportedly discovered that the child had dlabetes, but that her parents were not helping her maintain the lifelong disease. Authorities say the child died after ongoing lack of treatment and complications.
Authorities also discovered that the child came to school with a high blood-sugar level more than 30 times this year. The Department of Child Services reportedly reached out to the child’s parents after frequently testing high. The medical examiner told investigators that the child reportedly died from dlabetic ketosis.
Authorities released a statement, saying that the child’s Iiver was more than twice the size of an adult woman’s and her blood sugar was found to be between 4-8 times the average for a person her age. An autopsy reportedly revealed that the girl’s death was the result of complications from untreated dlabetes. Both parents are being held on $100,000 bond.
