Man who kiIIed a person he had just met after chasing him and shooting him in the head when the other man feII because he became concerned about him wearing Iong-sIeeve cIothing on a warm day, was sentenced
Minnesota – A Minnesota man was ordered to spend more than three decades behind bars after pleading guilty to second-degree intentionaI murder for the fataI shooting of 24-year-old D. HaII in Minnesota. The County Attorney’s Office stated that the defendant, 39-year-old W. Senders, would receive credit for time served.
The incident occurred in Sept. last year. According to the criminal complaint, surveillance footage captured an argument between the victim and the defendant. The video shows the defendant removing an item from a bag strapped around his shoulders, at which point the victim fled. The defendant then chased the victim, shooting him in the back. As the victim fell to the ground and raised his hands in surrender, the defendant approached and shot him twice in the head before walking away from the scene.
Investigators traced the defendant to a hotel room, where they found a bag similar to the one seen in the surveillance video. Inside the fanny pack was a firearm with one round in the chamber and four in the magazine.
During questioning, the reportedly told police that he had smoked illegal substance and did not remember the events leading up to the shooting. He initially claimed that he shot the victim in self-defense because he had threatened him. Later, the defendant stated that he became suspicious of the victim because he was wearing a hooded sweatshirt on a nice day.
County Attorney Moriarti described the act as a terrible act of violence, emphasizing that the defendant needlessly escalated an argument by drawing and using a firearm to kill the victim
The defendant’s guilty plea and subsequent sentencing bring closure to a case that highlighted the dangers of drug-induced paranoia and the tragic consequences of senseless violence. The community continues to mourn the loss of the victim, whose life was cut short in an act that many find difficult to comprehend.
