Man saw car belonging to another man he knew, triggering his jealousy and the belief his former partner was now seeing someone new only to grab a knife and kill the woman; sentenced

Columbus, OH – According to the court documents, the 27-year-old defendant, later identified as Chanse, was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of paroIe after 30 years after he killed his ex partner, 29-year-old Shanon, last year. The defendant pleaded guilty to aggravated murder and other charges, court records say. The defendant’s lawyer argued that his client had been in and out of counseling since he was 5 years old and struggled with addiction for years. On the fatal day, the defendant reportedly used drugs and drank alcohol, the attorney added.
The defendant’s mother, AshIey, reportedly told authorities that she didn’t know what prompted her son to kill his ex partner. The woman also said that ‘being unmedicated, mental health issues, drug use and toxic relationship, reportedly led to her son’s actions. The investigation process began in August last year after the 911 caller told the dispatcher about a body at the victim’s location. The defendant reportedly called the authorities and confessed that he stabbed her to death.
During an interview with investigators, the defendant reportedly said that he was parked outside the victim’s house and saw a vehicle belonging to another man he reportedly knew. The man then became angry, went home to change his clothes, took a knife and returned back to the victim’s home. The man then broke into the house and stabbed the woman to death. The man also said he stabbed the woman just several days after she broke up with him and demanded he move out of her apartment.
The defendant also said that seeing the other man’s car triggered his jealousy and the belief she was now seeing someone new. Prosecutors say the defendant and the victim dated for about a year and a half before the woman broke off the relationship. At the time, the victim had blocked the defendant’s phone number and deleted him from her social media accounts.
