Man arrived to find his girIfriend’s baby on the fIoor after she kiIIed the 8-month-old, and instead of contacting emergency services, he engaged in intrcourse with the mother before leaving the room; sentenced

Minnesota – A Minnesota man was ordered to spend the next six years and two months behind bars after pleading guilty to aiding an offender as an accompIice after the fact in the death of 8-month-old Matteo. The sentencing took place in Minnesota, following the defendant’s admission of helping to conceal the murder committed by his girIfriend, 21-year-old Esperansa.
The tragic events unfolded in February last year, when the parent drowned her baby in a batthtub at a hotel. Prior to the act, she sent the defendant a series of alarming text messages expressing her frustration with the child’s crying, stating that ‘she will do something bad and the child is not going to be here much longer.’ The defendant reportedly responded with ‘that’s ok’. When the parent later informed him that her baby was dead, he replied that ‘she shouldn’t be sorry’.
After the drowning, the woman contacted the defendant, who arrived at the hotel room and attempted CPR on the child without success. Instead of seeking medical assistance, the defendant advised his girIfriend to dispose of the body in a dumpster and to remain silent about the incident. The woman complied, placing the child’s body in a backpack and discarding it in a hotel dumpster.
Minnesota authorities also reported that the defendant arrived to find the baby already deceased in the bathroom. Though he attempted CPR, he did not contact emergency services and instead engaged in se-ual activity with the mother before leaving the hotel room.
The investigation revealed that the defendant had a significant influence over the woman, with reports indicating he wanted her to prove that he was her top priority, even over her own child. This dynamic contributed to the tragic outcome.
The mother was arrested and charged with second-degree intentional murder. She pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 32 years in prison in March 2025.
Despite extensive search efforts, the baby’s remains were never recovered. Minnesota authorities conducted a thorough search of the local landfill, but were unable to locate the body.
