Eugene Springfield Fire firefighters complete hazmat technician certification and join Oregon State Fire Marshal hazmat team
Eugene, OR – Firefighters with Eugene Springfield Fire Department have completed an intensive 160-hour Hazardous Materials Technician certification program, strengthening regional response capabilities for hazardous incidents across the area.
According to the department, the training included 80 hours of classroom instruction and 80 hours of hands-on practical drills designed to prepare firefighters for complex hazardous materials emergencies.
Following the certification, the three firefighters have joined the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Type 2 Hazmat Team, operated by Eugene Springfield Fire personnel.
The team provides specialized hazardous materials response services throughout the greater Lane County area.
Officials said the accomplishment reflects the firefighters’ dedication to advanced training and emergency preparedness. They also noted that the expanded capability enhances public safety and strengthens the region’s ability to respond to hazardous incidents.
The department expressed pride in the firefighters’ achievement and appreciation for the additional protection their certification brings to the community.
