Eugene Springfield Fire crews battle large residential fire involving two homes in West Eugene
Eugene, OR – Eugene Springfield Fire responded to a residential fire involving two homes in West Eugene Sunday evening after receiving reports of heavy flames coming from an abandoned home.
Calls came into Central Lane 911 shortly after 7:30 p.m. on June 21 reporting a fire near the intersection of West Broadway Avenue and Grant Street. An additional caller reported flames extending above the roofline of the home on Broadway.
Engine 2 and Tower 2 arrived more than three minutes after dispatch and found a large amount of fire on the rear side of both homes, with flames extending into the second-floor interior areas and attic spaces.
Firefighters encountered additional hazards while battling the blaze, including live downed power lines in the rear of both homes and overheated propane tanks that were venting and contributing to the fire.
Due to the size of the fire and the involvement of two homes, Eugene Springfield Fire called for a second alarm to bring additional crews and resources to the scene.
No injuries were reported, but families from both sides of the duplex were displaced because of the fire.
Eugene Springfield Fire said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The response included 11 fire crews, four chiefs, two ambulances, two deputy fire marshals, one EMS captain, and one support unit. Eugene Police and EWEB also assisted crews at the scene.
Officials said the coordinated response helped firefighters manage the large-scale incident while working to protect nearby residents and surrounding property.
