EPD: 40-year-old man arrested, charged with criminal trespass after going into backyards on Amherst Way
Eugene, OR – Police officials said the 40-year-old suspect, later identified as Michael Anderson, was arrested on Saturday.
Eugene Police Department officers responded to the location on Amherst Way after the 911 caller reported a prowler.
A man was seen going into back yards and checking houses.
One of the officers deployed a drone and located an individual in the back yard of a residence nearby.
After watching to make sure the individual did not appear to be a resident, the officer vectored in other officers and EPD K9 Officer Goodin and K9 Kaz to the area.
As officers were attempting to make their way into the back yard where the suspect was hiding, he began to jump fences and flee.
The 40-year-old suspect made his way through the Summer Oaks retirement complex and into Crescent Park Apartments but he spotted police and fled back into Summer Oaks.
The K9 team challenged Anderson as he exited the back yard of a residence, but Anderson fled back into the back yard instead of following commands.
Anderson jumped a fence on the north side of the residence and was challenged by waiting officers. He was taken into custody without further incident.
Anderson was transported to the Lane County Jail and lodged for three counts of Criminal Trespass in the Second Degree and Escape From Custody.
