Crews quickly contain afternoon house fire in Eugene’s Cal Young area, pets missing
Eugene, OR – Firefighters with Eugene Springfield Fire responded to a reported house fire in the Cal Young neighborhood on the afternoon of January 7.
According to fire officials, a passing motorist spotted the fire in the 2000 block of Brewer Avenue shortly after 2:30 p.m. Engine 9, which was nearby handling a non-urgent call, redirected to the scene and arrived moments after the incident was dispatched. Crews found an active fire on the exterior of the home with smoke coming from the attic.
Firefighters quickly knocked down the exterior flames before moving inside to conduct a fire attack and primary search. Ladder 11 arrived shortly thereafter to assist with interior operations. Officials said the fire had spread into the living room, prompting crews to pull down ceiling material to check for attic involvement. Truck 1 was also deployed to the roof to provide ventilation and check for additional fire extension.
The fire was brought under control at approximately 2:51 p.m. No human injuries were reported, though crews continued searching for two cats that remained unaccounted for. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Multiple units responded to the scene, including Engine 9, Ladder 11, Engines 5 and 13, Truck 1, Medic 11, Battalion Chiefs 1 and 2, EMS 1, and Support 1.
