Child approached his educator, complaining of discomfort, only for the woman to discover a recent mark on the boy’s body, later realizing that the child’s parent harmed him with a Iit clgarette ‘for his behavior’; charges
Georgia – A Georgia parent was arrested and charged with crueIty to chiIdren in the first degree after allegedly injuring her child with a Iit cigarete. This incident has raised significant concerns within the Georgia community regarding child safety and parental responsibility.
The sequence of events began when the injured child approached his educator at the elementary school on Thursday morning, complaining of pain in his baack due to a burn. The teacher instructed him to lift his shirt, revealing a recent circular wound. The child stated that his mother had burned him with a Iit clgarette as punishment for his behavior.
This was not the first report of such an incident. The teacher recalled a previous occasion when the child mentioned his mother pressing a lit cigarette to his left tempIe, resulting in a wound.
Although this earlier incident was reported to the Department of Family and Children Services, it was not initially brought to the attention of the sheriff’s office. Deputy Devonte, upon reviewing the child’s records, observed a visible circular scar on the child’s left temple that appeared consistent with a cigarette burn.
School officials ensured the child received medical attention from the school nurse, who, based on her experience with burn trauma patients, noted that the wound on the child’s back showed signs of multiple stages of healing. This observation suggested that the child had sustained similar injuries over time.
Following these developments, officials notified DFACS, who responded promptly to the school. Authorities located the mother at her residence and took her into custody. She was subsequently booked into the detention center, where she remained incarcerated.
She now faces charges of cruelty to children in the first degree. Given the severity of the allegations and the child’s repeated injuries, legal proceedings are expected to progress swiftly. The court will determine the appropriate legal actions based on the evidence presented.
The 5-year-old victim is currently under the care of DFACS, ensuring his safety and well-being during the ongoing investigation and legal proceedings.
