Armed man dies after shooting himself in St. Vincent de Paul parking lot
Eugene, OR – Eugene police responded to a report of an armed, suicidal man in the St. Vincent de Paul parking lot on Chad Drive on Wednesday afternoon.
The man was armed with a handgun and reportedly made suicidal statements while pointing the weapon in the air and at the ground.
Officers arrived at the scene at approximately 1:52 p.m. and made contact with the man from behind cover. The man shot himself around 2:11 p.m.
Police officers provided emergency medical aid, and Eugene Springfield Fire medics who were staged nearby arrived quickly to take over care and transport him to a local hospital. The man later died.
During the incident, authorities placed Eugene Christian School and a nearby business on lockout until the area was secured. Westbound traffic on Chad Drive was temporarily shut down during the response.
The man’s name is being withheld until his family can be notified.
