Skinner Butte fire extinguished after crews stopped forward progress in Eugene

Eugene, OR – A fire on Skinner Butte in Eugene was extinguished after firefighters stopped its forward progress, according to Eugene Springfield Fire and the City of Eugene.

Eugene Springfield Fire reported about 17 hours ago that forward progress on the fire had been stopped, indicating crews had contained the spread of the fire.

The City of Eugene later provided an update confirming that the fire had been extinguished.

“Crews remain on scene to monitor the situation,” the city said.

Officials said Skinner Butte would remain closed while firefighters continued monitoring the area and until Parks staff could inspect the site.

The city had initially warned the public to stay clear of the area while the fire was active. Officials said they would provide additional information as it became available.

No cause of the fire or information about injuries was included in the updates provided by the city and Eugene Springfield Fire.
