Eugene police make multiple arrests during retail theft operation

Eugene, OR – On the evening of December 10, Eugene Police Department detectives conducted a targeted retail theft operation at TJ Maxx and Nordstrom Rack on Coburg Road, resulting in several arrests.

Even before the operation began, TJ Maxx reported three thefts. During the operation, detectives intercepted five additional thefts and arrested the suspects, all of whom had outstanding warrants. While at Nordstrom Rack, officers also identified 39-year-old Austin David Coy, wanted on a parole violation warrant. Coy was taken into custody after leaving the location in his vehicle.

Those arrested for theft-related charges included:

  • Rachell Deann Waddell, 41, arrested for Theft in the Second Degree after leaving TJ Maxx with a cartload of merchandise and for outstanding warrants.

  • Erik David Baszler-Martin, 27, arrested for Robbery in the Third Degree, Theft in the Second Degree, Interfering, and warrants. Baszler-Martin fled from detectives, throwing a bicycle at one officer during the chase, but surrendered without further incident. The officer was not injured.

  • Billy Scott Dean Swartout, 30, arrested for Theft in the Third Degree and warrants after concealing merchandise and leaving the store without paying. He was compliant during the arrest.

  • Jorge Garibay-Maciel, 32, arrested for Theft in the Second Degree, Possession of Methamphetamine, and warrants after leaving the store with concealed items.

  • Jane Ashley Broderick, 36, arrested for Theft in the Third Degree and Failure to Appear on controlled substance (Fentanyl) charges.

Police officials said the operation highlights ongoing efforts to combat retail theft and protect local businesses. All arrested individuals were taken into custody and transported to Lane County Jail as appropriate.
