ALPR system aids Eugene Police in arresting seven suspects in Bethel area burglary

Eugene, OR – Eugene Police Department announced the arrest of seven individuals in connection with a daytime burglary on October 6 at a Bethel area home belonging to members of the Asian community. The occupants were at work at their Eugene business when the crime occurred.
Investigators traced the suspects through video footage showing a person posing as a pizza delivery driver and additional surveillance capturing the suspect vehicle. Using the department’s Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) system, detectives tracked the vehicle in Eugene and neighboring cities, including Corvallis, Salem, and Keizer. Collaboration with multiple jurisdictions and ALPR access was crucial in confirming the suspects’ movements.
On October 9, Eugene Police SWAT executed a search warrant at a residence on the 2400 block of Skyline Boulevard. Seven individuals initially fled the scene but were apprehended, prompting a temporary shelter-in-place alert for nearby residents.
All four suspect vehicles have been linked to multi-state travel patterns, consistent with a broader investigation into burglaries targeting Asian business owners. Eugene Police Chief Chris Skinner highlighted the ALPR system as a “critical investigative tool” that helped resolve the case efficiently.
Those arrested for Burglary in the First Degree and Conspiracy to Commit Burglary in the First Degree, now lodged at Lane County Jail, include:
