Lanes expected to be reopened by July 25 after major repaving work at Chambers Street and West 11th Avenue
Eugene, OR – Major repaving work began on July 17 at Chambers Street and West 11th Avenue, resulting in the closure of Chambers Street to through traffic at 11th Avenue, the City of Eugene announced.
Traffic on West 11th Avenue remained open but was reduced to one lane, causing expected travel delays.
The closure was scheduled to last about one week, with all lanes anticipated to reopen by July 25. Drivers were advised to use alternate routes such as Polk Street or Arthur and Garfield Streets to avoid the construction area.
Access to businesses at the intersection of 11th and Chambers was maintained throughout the project.
The repaving was part of the West 11th Avenue Paving & Accessibility Project, aimed at improving street surfaces, upgrading ADA ramps, and enhancing safety with better visibility and lane design.
Funded by the 2017 Street Bond and local fuel taxes, the work was a key component of Eugene’s plan to address urgent infrastructure needs.
Motorists were reminded to exercise caution in the work zones and follow posted detour signs. For updates, residents were encouraged to visit eugene-or.gov/traffic.
