59-year-old man arrested, charged with arson in the first degree following incident at 174 E 16th Avenue

Eugene, OR – Eugene Police officers arrested 59-year-old Lachlan Scott Proffitt on February 23 in connection with an attempted arson at the Ballet Academy, located at 174 E 16th Avenue.
Authorities responded to the scene on February 22 after receiving reports that someone had attempted to shove burning materials through the mail slot of the building around 6:30 a.m.
The location is a midrise apartment building.
Proffitt was identified as the suspect and was located at 2445 Hilyard Street around 9:21 a.m. on February 23.
He was taken into custody and transported to Lane County Jail on a charge of arson in the first degree.
