Eugene, OR – According to the officials, at 10:53 AM on June 22, 2024, ESF was alerted to a fire originating from a window air conditioning unit at 60 W 17th Ave.
A passerby had reported seeing smoke and flames emanating from the unit, which were quickly spreading to the interior of the house.
In response, ESF dispatched a robust team consisting of four engines, one truck company, two battalion chiefs, and an Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulance to the scene. Upon arrival, fire crews conducted a primary search of the structure, where they tragically found two deceased dogs.
The firefighters swiftly extinguished the blaze and conducted an extensive overhaul to ensure that the fire was completely out and to prevent any potential re-ignition. The ESF Fire Marshal’s office is currently investigating the cause of the fire.
Fortunately, the fire was contained to the building of origin, preventing further damage to surrounding structures. There were no other injuries reported in the incident.
The rapid and efficient response by ESF highlights their commitment to protecting the Eugene community. As investigations continue, the focus remains on understanding the cause of the fire and preventing similar incidents in the future.
