Eugene, OR – According to the city officials, this project is supported by Cultural Currents, an ongoing collaborative public art initiative to strengthen multicultural hubs, programming and experiences in Eugene.
Cultural Currents started in 2023 thanks to funding from the Our Town grant by The National Endowment for the Arts.
Through this initiative, artists, artist collectives and arts organizations are invited to create temporary public art installations that advance representation and narratives for groups that have historically been excluded, misrepresented and/or marginalized.
Artists of all abilities, as well as artists who identify as Black, Indigenous, Asian American, Pacific Islander, Latin American, LGTBQIA+ and those with intersecting identities are strongly encouraged to apply.
Five artists will be selected and will each receive a stipend ranging from $1,500-$2,000. This call is open to all artists 18 years of age or older with a relationship to the community, culture and/or region of Eugene, Kalapuya Ilihi or the Southern Willamette Valley.
Youth under the age of 18 may apply in partnership with an older mentor. Deadline for submissions is May 20.
The Cultural Currents Advisory Committee will select finalists in June with installations occurring in mid-September.
