Eugene Police Take Armed Suicidal Man Into Custody
Police deescalated a tense situation in north Eugene on Tuesday.
It happened at about 12:15 a.m. near River Avenue at the Beltline eastbound ramp.
Police said a man in his early 20s called 911 wanting officers to come to his location and shoot him. He reportedly threatened to kill himself if officers didn’t.
The man told officers he had a handgun and had taken alcohol and pills.
Police said they got the man on the phone and convinced him to put his backpack, where the gun was said to be, into his vehicle.
Officers took the man into custody on a non-criminal hold and to a local hospital
