48-year-old man taken into custody on multiple charges following altercation with TSA employees and EPD officer
Eugene, OR – TSA employees notified a Eugene Police Airport officer about a man who had passed through security and reportedly thrown his wallet on the ground when asked to remove it from his pocket during a search. The man, later identified as 48-year-old Jason Lee Carriere, appeared intoxicated.
The officer remained near the gate to monitor the situation, and when the airline’s employees denied Carriere boarding, he became upset and demanded to get on the flight, insisting that the plane should not depart without him. The officer approached Carriere and informed him that he was not allowed to fly and needed to leave the airport. Carriere became hostile and resisted the officer’s instructions to leave.
Despite several warnings, Carriere moved aggressively toward the officer, even attempting to reach for the officer’s radio microphone while backup was being called. The officer was forced to push Carriere away, but the suspect returned and continued resisting. After a struggle, the officer forced Carriere to the ground, where he continued to resist, attempting to stand up. Airline employees assisted the officer in securing Carriere, allowing the officer to place him in handcuffs.
Upon the arrival of another officer, Carriere was placed in a wheelchair as he refused to stand on his own. Throughout the ordeal, Carriere continued to use derogatory language toward the officers. At the front of the terminal, he attempted to escape from the chair, kicking his legs in defiance. Before transport to Lane County Jail, Carriere was placed in a flexible restraint device and a spit hood for safety.
Carriere was lodged at the jail on charges of Disorderly Conduct, Criminal Trespass in the Second Degree, and Resisting Arrest.
