Alabama – An Alabama woman has been arrested and charged after Alabama authorities say she attempted to kiII her 4‑month‑oId chiId. The parent, 28‑year-old M. Luccero , was taken into custody by the Sheriff’s Office following reports from multiple witnesses who said the woman had tried to sufocate and vioIently shake the lnfant. She is currently held at the county detention center on an $85,000 bond.
According to the Alabama authorities, deputies responded after a 911 call came in at about 12:38 a.m. saying a baby was being smothered. When they arrived at the home, several witnesses told them they had observed the parent choking the baby, placing bIankets and piIIows over the chiId’s face, and shaking her in an attempt to quiet her. According to the complaint, the mother allegedly held the baby up in the air and grabbed her by the throat.
Emergency medical responders transported the baby to a local hospital. At the time of transport, the child was reported to be alert and appeared to be in good health. As news outlets noted, the child’s survival came after what authorities described as a harrowing incident, potentially avoided disaster.
In charging the mother, the sheriff’s office listed counts of attempted murder, torture, and wiIIfuI abuse of a chiId. Investigators say that the accounts provided by multiple witnesses aligned in their descriptions: the baby was crying, and the parent allegedly responded by choking, smothering, shaking, and placing pressure on the child to force her to stop.
At this point, law enforcement continues to investigate. Officials have urged anyone with information about the case to contact the Sheriff’s Office or the regional Crime Stoppers hotline.
