Eugene Police arrest wrong-way driver on DUII charge after early morning traffic stop
Eugene, OR – The Eugene Police Department arrested a driver on a DUII charge following a wrong-way driving incident reported early Monday morning.
According to police, officers responded at approximately 3:14 a.m. on May 26 to the area of West Broadway and Olive Street after a caller reported a possibly intoxicated man near a parking garage. The caller stated the man appeared impaired, was searching for his vehicle, and later drove off in the wrong direction on West 7th Avenue.
Officers located the suspect vehicle, a Toyota Corolla, near the intersection of West 7th Avenue and Chambers Street. Police then used patrol vehicles to safely pin the car in place and prevent further movement.
An officer made contact with the driver, identified as 24-year-old Saul Mercado-Severiano, who showed signs of impairment, according to authorities. Following an investigation at the scene, he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of intoxicants (DUII).
The Eugene Police Department did not report any injuries related to the incident. The investigation remains ongoing.
