Eugene Police Department earns re-accreditation with Northwest Accreditation Alliance

Eugene, OR – The Eugene Police Department earned re-accreditation with the Northwest Accreditation Alliance on January 8, 2025, following a thorough assessment by the NAA Professional Standards Committee. The committee unanimously recommended that EPD be granted its accredited status, acknowledging the department’s commitment to professionalism and high standards.

EPD has held accredited status since 2015, an achievement that is not easily attained. To become accredited, a police department must meet 104 professional standards, with over 400 separate requirements encompassed within those standards.

The accreditation process invites external evaluation, offering transparency and demonstrating a department’s commitment to excellence by ensuring it meets the best practices for law enforcement.

Accreditation is an ongoing effort, and agencies must go through the process every three years. The NAA specifically recognized the dedication of EPD’s Sgt. Julie Barrong and former planner Linda Phelps, who played key roles in the department’s accreditation efforts. NAA praised their involvement, noting that their contributions exemplify EPD’s commitment to continuous improvement.

EPD will undergo a new assessment for re-accreditation prior to the expiration of the current period on January 31, 2028.
